Case Study: Subway Transit Car Inverter Weldment
This weldment project is an excellent example of how Blackstone can create a solution to an issue brought to us by a client.
Problem: Client needed a supplier who could meet +/- .090 on the mounting feet of a 10' long weldment, over a 300+ unit life of the program.
Solution:
- Intensive analysis of welding methodology on the part of Blackstone.
- Development of internal checklist (traveler) for every step of the manufacturing process.
- Implement sign-offs after every operation by operators.
- Verification of sign-off after every section of process by Qualified Engineer.
- Coordination with Customer Source Inspector to review checklist for each weldment before shipping.
Result: Consistent production of the weldments that met all customer dimensional requirements, over the 300+ unit life span of the project. This dramatically reduced the required customer source inspection time.
